President's message

The 2010 SPR elections are now completed. It 2001 it was the first time a person form outside the USA was appoint as SPR officer. Today, 10 years later, the board has a representation from several countries from around the world. This echoes the actual internationalization of the SPR membership. These have been important changes for our Society, but still recent ones.

The holding of our bi-annual International Meetings on Phytolith Research played a major role in this process. They represented milestones for our community and they will play a fundamental role in the future growth of our Society. However, many aspects of our Society life, such as communication tools, need to be adapted to the new realities and practices that will represent the diversity of our membership. Carry out these changes so that the involvement of our membership will be effective continuous appear to me as the major task of the new Board, of which I am the new President.

L.S. Cummings and M. Kajale reached the end of their term in the board. Linda was not the first time she has been involved with the SPR. She proved to be a strong force in relation to our society life, and contributed significantly to shape its current appearance. Mukund brought in is long-time experience as a broad-spectrum archaeobotanist and the concerns of researchers from a part of the world, Asia, represented for the first time in the Board. To both of them, in the name of the SPR Board and all our membership, I would like to express our thanks for all their efforts and time, and for the sincere commitment they demonstrated to the SPR.
