the Society for Phytolith Research

The SPR president's message

Dear Researcher,

A warm welcome to the Society for Phytolith Research from all the Board Members. The Society was formed to provide a voice and a forum for scientists working on any aspect of phytolith analysis. In this respect, the society aims to unite researchers from all disciplines with an interest in phytoliths, microscopic silica bodies formed in plants. Indeed, this multidisciplinary aspect is one of our strength and gives us the possibility to confront our research perspectives with different realities and problems. Our members have a very different background, spanning from archaeology, ecology and geology, just to cite a few. Our mission is to advance and spread the knowledge in phytolith research. Also, we would like to help all our members to become more competitive through a better knowledge of the subject and liaising with fellow researchers. We provide education and links to other sites related to phytoliths and a venue for the members for publishing short articles on phytolith methodology and applications through the Phytolitharien Bulletin.

We hope you will find the Society web page, and the phytalk on-line forum, useful tools for your work and that you will be interested in joining the Society.

I look forward to welcoming you as a new member of the Society for Phytolith Research and to meeting you at the 7th International Meeting on Phytolith Research to be held in Mar del Plata (Argentina) in December 2008.
